Accounts, Audit & Assurance

Accounts, audit and taxation are handled as one area because the questions run together: how a transaction is recorded affects what it costs in tax, and what the books show determines what an audit is able to say.

Regulated audit work is performed and signed by a chartered accountant holding a certificate of practice. The engagement letter names the person responsible.

How an engagement proceeds

01

Scoping

What is required by statute, what is wanted by management, and what a lender or investor has asked for are three different scopes. We establish which applies before quoting.

02

Records and reconciliation

Books are brought to a reconciled position. Where records are incomplete, we say what is missing and what can reasonably be reconstructed.

2–6 weeks
03

Fieldwork

Testing and verification appropriate to the scope, conducted against the applicable standards.

04

Report and filing

The report is issued and statutory filings made. Findings that need management attention are set out plainly rather than buried in an annexure.

Frequently asked questions

That taxation is treated as part of the same picture as the accounts, rather than as a separate exercise at the end of the year. How a transaction is recorded has tax consequences, and it is cheaper to consider them at the time than to revisit them at filing.

Audit is regulated work and is performed and signed by a chartered accountant qualified and holding a certificate of practice to do so. The engagement letter names the person responsible.

Not on the same subject matter, where independence requirements prohibit it. Where a client needs both, we will say plainly which role we can take and arrange the other through the associate network.

It is a common starting point rather than a disqualifying one. We will tell you what is missing, what can reasonably be reconstructed, and what limitation that places on the report we are able to issue.
