Taxation

Taxation is handled across both direct and indirect heads, from routine filing through to assessment, appeal and representation before the authorities.

The area sits alongside the accounts practice deliberately. How a transaction is recorded determines what it costs in tax, and the two questions are cheaper to answer together than to reconcile afterwards.

Direct taxation

Income Tax consultancy, planning and compliance for individuals, firms and companies, including return preparation and the positions taken in them. Assessment, scrutiny, notices and appeals are handled as part of the same engagement rather than referred on when a demand arrives.

Indirect taxation

Goods and Services Tax across registration, periodic returns, reconciliations and the input tax credit positions that most often attract departmental attention. CGST, SGST and IGST matters, refunds, departmental proceedings and GST audit are covered, along with replies to notices and appeals.

How an engagement proceeds

01

Review of the position

We read the filings, the notices and the underlying records before advising, and set out plainly where the exposure sits and what the department is likely to ask next.

1 to 2 weeks
02

Written advice

A note setting out the position, the options, and what each is likely to cost in time and in tax.

1 week
03

Compliance or representation

Returns are filed, replies are drafted and representations made in the required order, with the documentary record assembled to support each position.

04

Standing compliance

Where a retainer is taken, a calendar of recurring filing obligations is maintained and you are prompted ahead of each due date rather than after it.

Frequently asked questions

Positions are taken on the documentary record. Where the record does not support a position we say so before it is filed, because a position that cannot be substantiated on assessment is more expensive than the tax it was meant to save.

Yes. Income Tax and GST are handled in the same engagement, which matters because a single transaction frequently carries consequences under both and the two are easier to reconcile when one adviser sees the whole picture.

Notices carry statutory timelines and some are short. Send it as soon as it arrives, with the related filings, and we will tell you what the deadline is and what is required to meet it before we discuss anything else.

Work reserved to a chartered accountant or an authorised representative is performed and signed by a professional qualified and authorised to do so. The engagement letter names the person responsible.
