Banking & Finance

This area covers raising finance and seeing the financed project through: bank and project lending, investor processes, and the diligence and documentation that accompany both.

Work begins with what the business can realistically service rather than with what it would like to raise. Where the honest answer is that the timing is wrong, that is said before an application is made rather than after it is refused.

How an engagement proceeds

Feasibility and structure

Before an application is made, what the business can actually service and what a lender or investor is likely to require are established. Occasionally the honest answer is that the timing is wrong.

Frequently asked questions

That the documentation set is given to the client in full at the outset. A financing process stalls most often because papers arrive in instalments, and that is avoidable.

No, and any adviser who does should be treated with caution. Sanction is the decision of the lender. What we can do is establish beforehand what the business can realistically service, prepare the application properly, and tell you early where we think it is weak.

Not where independence requirements prohibit it. Where a client needs both, we will say which role we can take and arrange the other through the associate network.

Yes, though it is most useful where we have also handled the financing, because the reporting and drawdown obligations are then already understood.
